How do I get rid of this light green color matting grass that is growing in circles in my yard?

This grass grows in patches. it comes up early in the season then starts to matt down. I have more patches this year them last, also it does not cut well. It looks like I have a bunch of Chia pets in the yard. Thanks

Without seeing the grass, it's hard to identify it and thus know how to control it. My first guess is that it is either crabgrass or annual bluegrass.

Both are annual grasses that grow from fresh seed each year. You can control the new sees each spring by applying a preemergent weed killer just as the grasses start to sprout (around now in the upper midwest). For an organic control, you can use corn gluten meal, which also fertilizes the lawn.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
