Please help, I'm having trouble with my new garage door opener, model 139.53985D, purchased on the 15th of January, 2008. The garage door will not close until several attempts have been made. It reverses with the door in different positions, and the light flashes nine times, whether I block the safety beam or it reverses on its own. Nine flashes is a number not mentioned in the manual. I tried more troubleshooting in an attempt to better pin the problem down. The safety reversing sensors appear to work fine - the receiver side light never flickers, and the door stops when I put my foot in the light path. I unlocked the trolley from the door, and had the same intermittent problem with the door not closing, so the force settings seem okay. Suggestions? Is there a way I can get a new logic board without having a repairman visit? Thanks
Anytime the door reverses and the overhead lights flash numerous times it is an indicator of a safety sensor related issue. The flashes here likely appear as 9 due to how the system counts them.
You can purchase the logic board direct through Sears PartsDirect and install it yourself but the cost and effort might not be necessary if everything else on the opener still seems to work okay.Since the system seems to test okay, it could be just a minor issue with one of the wires going to the sensors creating some abnormal resistance or maybe a sensor itself has some intermittent internal issue.Test the sensors by putting them directly against each other, eye-to-eye to eliminate any misreading. If the problem persists, try separating the wires near the sensors (leave enough length to reattach them) and connect them directly to the overhead opener, again holding them directly eye-to-eye. That will bypass any misreading and any wiring problems. If the door still reverses, it could be the logic board but it still could be a failing sensor also, so you might still consider consulting a professional at that point. To view a parts diagram or list online at Sears PartsDirect go to www.Sears.com and select PARTS or go directly to www3.Sears.comMember
