How can I shut off my outdoor faucets?

I have two outside water outlets. One is frostproof. They have no interiorshutoffs. The only shutoff is the main water supply for the house. What do you suggest I do other than calling having to get the municipal water supplier to come shut the water off and then get a plumber in the install a frost free pipe and outlet.

Your inventory suggests that your house was built in 2001. If it had been built in the 70s or 80s, I would suggest that you do nothing, because the pipe hasn't frozen in previous winters. Unfortunately, your house has not experiencedenough previous winters to say that.

Your remarks about the main water shutoff are a little alarming. If I understand you correctly, there is no way for you to shut off the water for your entire house, without calling that municipality and having them shut off the water at the street. If this is the case, you should have this problem rectified immediately. You must be able to shut off the water in an emergency. With the water shut off, is relatively easy to add a frostproof valve, or to add an interior shut off (with a drain) onto the existing conventional outdoor faucet.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
