How do you reprogram the code for a Keyless Entry to match the remote so both work with the new code?

Hi, we recently moved. We tried to change the code on the keyless entry for the garage door opener. When we changed the code then the remotes would not work. I can make the keyless entry touchpad work or the remotes work but not both at the same time. The garage door opener's part number is 139.53963SRT and the Keyless entry part number is 139.53876. Both are Craftsman and it says that the keyless entry is compatible with the opener. I need them both to work together. Any help would be appreciated.

The issues you are having can happen when one of the transmitters, either a remote or keyless entry, is incompatible or has failed. The opener can still locate and confirm the incorrect signal but in doing so it "locks" the opener memory and then no other transmitters will work. It is also possible the memory on the opener is full and needs to be reset. But, in this case, it looks like a compatibility issue since the 139.53963SRT opener needs a 139.53684 keyless to work with it. The two keyless pads look the same but process their codes differently.

You can use the opener model number and the instructions in the link below to find parts or to find the manual online at Manage My Home to confirm all the correct remotes and keyless are being used. Be sure to confirm the complete opener number off the opener itself since minor differences can designate a major change and need different accessories. For example a 139.53963SRT and a 139.53963D use totally different style programming systems and none of the transmitters will interchange.

There are programming instructions in the manual and they should also be on the unit but the other links below also have programming instructions, instructions on erasing or resetting the memory, and troubleshooting information in case you do have a failed transmitter as it can be difficult to determine which transmitter is the cause of the problem.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
