My garage door opener works only part time. It seems to get stuck in the up position. When this happens the light on the back of the opener will blink bright, like six times. Then blink dim six times. What might be the problem?
There could be a problem with the upper limit switch or freeplay in the worm gear/sprocket assembly that is allowing the door to contact the stop jam and bind in the upper position, but if the LED on the opener is flashing six times it is more likely that you have a problem with the logic board or a relay on the logic board.
If you can hear the motor humming without the door moving then the problem is likely in the gears, if you do not hear the motor then the logic board will likely need to be replaced.
