My garage door opener stopped operating. There were no signs that anything was wrong. It does not respond to any of the controls. The lights on the opener do not operate either. I can hear a very brief clicking sound when I press one of the buttons, but nothing happens. I have checked the outlet that the opener is plugged in to and confirmed it has power. I am wonder if there is a fuse that could have blown and that needs to be replaced.
Most Craftsman openers do not have any type of fuse, though some older models did have a reset button. The owner's manual would tell you if your model has a reset and cover how to use it.
If you are certain that your wall outlet has the proper voltage and polarity and does not have any intermittent connection then the click you hear is probably a relay trying to engage and the problem is most likely related to a failure on the logic board or a capacitor. You could double-check the outlet by running a heavy duty extension cord over to another outlet on a different house circuit and breaker to see if the opener works there.
Many newer-style Craftsman openers do have a rudimentary diagnostic system that flashes trouble codes on the overhead opener itself. If you had the unit unplugged for any amount of time then the logic board might have reset and erased any fault readings but trying the opener again might re-trigger a code that could help pinpoint the problem area.
Unfortunately, logic boards and capacitors can be difficult to test properly without damaging them or even shocking you, and they can be costly to replace, so you may want to consult a professional to confirm any diagnosis.
