Why won't the sensors work on my extra wide garage door?
I received a garage door opener from my Aunt in mid 2007, a machine she has owned boxed and unused since 1993. I installed it in a rental home I own, and the garage door I have is extremely wide. I am not sure of the measurements. If I perfectly align the sensors to retract the door they do not meet unless I put the sensors two feet inwards. I can not do this considering the garage door needs that two extra feet. What do I do?

It is a Craftsmen, Model# 13953970SRT, I do not have the serial number, but will get it as soon as I do my next inspection.

According to the manufacturer the door safety sensors are tested at 20 feet apart. If your door is more than 20 feet wide you can't use the garage door opener. If your door is less than 20 feet wide you should replace the sensors. The part number of a sensor kit which includes 2 sensors with 3 inches of wire on each one is 41A5034.
