How do I program a new remote to a dipswitch style opener?

I have an older Sears 1/3 HP garage door opener. Model number 139.664953. I'm trying to program a universal remote to control the door and I can't seem to get the right dip switch setup. This older opener just uses wires. The Clicker Model CLT1D has Sears options for 7/8/9 code Sears switch systems but none of those settings work. Can you help?

Not all of the universal remotes will work with the older systems, so there may be a compatibility issue. There are also potential issues with the contacts on the dipswitches themselves, so you might try moving each back and forth a few times as this often is enough to clean the contact points and get them working again. The link below has more information that should help with troubleshooting and programming.

You can also check the website of the universal remote manufacturer at www.chamberlain-diy.com. Their site can confirm if they intended your specific remote for use with a Craftsman opener 139.664953 and if they have any updated programming advice.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
