I have a Craftsman garage door opener (model 139.53644SRT) and it is stuck in the up position. When I try to lower it, the motor hums and then cuts off in a few seconds.
Typically, once one of the components has failed you will not hear any humming and if the door is jammed there will be some jerking as the motor tries to engage so if there is no movement at all the most likely problem is that the motor/lift assembly itself is jammed.
You can try releasing the door from the opener by pulling the manual release rope on the trolley. If the door now moves when you pull on it, the problem is likely something binding or failed inside the opener itself.
If the door is still difficult to move then try hitting the wall button and see if the door trolley now moves. If so, it indicates there is something jammed with the door itself. This could still be related to a problem with the opener if a failure of the limit switch, or the gears that drive it, allowed the door to lift too far and it is stuck against the jam bolt.
The Links below and your owner's manual will have more information that might help.
