Why won't my opener work now that I have a new keyless entry?

Sears Craftsman garage door opener model # 139.53644srt My garage opener is not working- the keyless pad and all the remotes won't work after we set them- the remotes will work if you are right under the antenna by the ceiling. Not every time though. So we bought a whole new board and we set it up ok and now its doing the same thing- they don't work again even with the new board- it happened after we tried to get in with the keyless pad outside-what is the problem? If it is not the board then could it be the keyless pad? But all the keyless and remotes don't work - sometimes the remotes work right after you set them up but only if your near the antenna by the ceiling?

The issue sounds like it is related to interference with the signal the remotes are putting out.

Typically an incompatible keyless entry will cause problem with programming other remotes and not limiting their range. It sounds like your remotes are programming, they just have limited range. It could be that some problem in the keyless is sending out a constant signal that is limiting range but still letting you program the remotes but that would be unlikely.

You can check for it by removing the batteries from your keyless, then erasing all the codes from the opener and reprogramming in your remotes only. Do one at a time and test their range before adding another. If you find the remotes work fine like this then add in your keyless and check again. If the problem now reappears it is the keyless at fault and you would need another.

If the problem is still present even with the keyless removed from the equation altogether then you have some other source of interference that needs to be found. As you have already found, replacing components will not help, the interference will simply limit the new components that same as the originals.

Your owner's manual and the links below provide more information on finding interference and programming procedures.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
