How do I program a keyless entry that needs switches flipped?

I have a Craftsman garage door opener with a remote keyless entry pad mounted outside the garage door. Sometime ago, the outside keypad just stopped working. I replaced the battery and that didn't help. I bought a universal remote keypad at the hardware store, but I cannot figure out how to program it as it refers to flipping the little levers to set the code, and there are no little levers on my unit--on the remote or on the unit itself.

Unfortunately it looks like your model number did not come through complete but it has been many years since any of the Craftsman openers used a dip-switch system to program so I doubt any univeral-style remote with that system would work.

Most Craftsman openers use an electronic code that is programmed in through a sequence noted in the owners manual. You can find the manual for your exact model using the model number off of the overhead opener and the procedure in the link below. For the majority of Craftsman openers out there you will use an SRT button to program as in the other link below.

You can also use your model number to find the correct remotes and keyless entry for your opener at

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
