My garage door will not open completely . It will stop half way up. It doesn't happen everytime probably 50% of the time. Is the reciever going bad?
I don't think the problem is in your receiver. It sounds like it may be too much resistance in the door itself. You probably need to lubricate the door rollers and bearings.
Release the trolley from the door by pulling down on the rope that hangs down from the trolley. Always release the trolley with the door down. If you release it with the door up and a spring is broken it may slam shut and hurt someone or damage something. Manually move the door up and down feeling for resistance and maybe spots where the door gets harder to move. Open the door half way up. It should stay where you stop it. If it closes or opens farther it is not balanced and can cause the opener to stop.
In your owners manual there are instructions for adjusting the up and down force. Sometimes this needs to be readjusted after using a while. There is also instructions for performing a safety reversing test after adjusting the force. Be sure to perform the safety reversing test, garage doors can be dangerous.
You can buy a lubrication kit from Sears or most hardware stores that include a can of silicone spray for lubricating the door rollers. It also has a tube of grease for the sprocket or gear on the opener.
