I have an older 1/2 hp Sears garage door opener which has the dip switches on the back of the unit. I purchased a 50000 series replacement remote because I inherited the opener without a remote in an older home that I bought. When I opened the remote I re-set the dip switches to match the current configuration of the dip switches on the opener. The remote does still not work. What am I doing wrong?
Sometimes when the dip switches on the back of the garage door opener haven't been moved for a while they loose connection. Slide each dip switch back and forth a couple of times then put them back to their original position. If it still doesn't work spray the dip switches with some contact cleaner and slide them back and forth again. This time set the switches to a different position then match the position of the dip switches on the remote to the new position on the opener.
Make sure the battery in your new remote is good. If this still doesn't work exchange the remote. You may have been sold a defective remote.
