Why does my garage door stop about 2 feet from the floor when the temperature is below 30 degrees?

Why is it when it is 30 degrees or colder my garage door will not completely close? It stops with about 2 feet from the floor.

I referred to your profile and did not find a model or serial number for a garage door opener. Without a brand, model, or serial number I can only give you some general information about garage door openers.

The colder temperatures my be affecting the door or the tracks on your garage door opener. It could also affect the electronic board inside the motor unit of your garage door opener. When the temperature is below 30 degrees pull the rope hanging down from the trolley on your garage door opener rail. Open and close the door by hand and look for spots where it binds or gets harder to move. Move the door to the half open position and see if it will stay. If it goes down or up there is a problem with the springs. Do not try to adjust the springs yourself. They are very strong and it is dangerous to loosen anything pertaining to the springs.

If you don't find anything wrong with the door, tracks, or springs you might try adjusting the down force on the garage door opener 1 increment stronger. If you do this be sure and do the automatic reversing test to make sure the garage door is safe.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
