Why does my Craftsman garage door opener model 139.53674SRT2 click and turn the light on but the motor does

I have a Craftsman garage door opener model 139.53674SRT2. The motor does not run, but the light on the opener goes on. I get two clicks from the motor module as usual. I tried reprogramming the keyless entry but it did not help. What is wrong?

Let me ask you some questions to get a better idea of what is happening. Did you try holding the button on the wall switch down 3-5 seconds? Does the LED on the back of the motor unit blink at all? Was anything done to the garage door opener prior to this problem occurring?

Several things can cause the light to come on but the motor does not run. I will list them from most probable to least probable.

  1. The rpm sensor may have failed or the interrupter cup may have backed off the motor shaft.
  2. The motor may have failed or a wire to the motor is disconnected or broken.
  3. The run capacitor for the motor may have failed.
  4. One or both of the door sensors may have failed.

If the LED is flashing it will give you a code to indicate where the problem probably is. If the motor runs when you hold the wall switch in the problem is in the safety door sensors. If some repairs were done prior to the problem maybe a wire was knocked loose or left off.

The rpm sensor, motor, and capacitor are underneath the cover on your motor unit and will need a meter to check. This work is best done by a technician.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
