I have a Craftsman garage door opener Model#139.53635SRT-1/2HP. My 1 sensor wire was cut and I ordered another from my part listing. I was sent a wire with a connector that was big and white. My connector was small and black and like one that goes in a phone receiver. I called Sears and they sent a bell wire "without" the connector which is a different part altogether on my list. Then they told me there is a substitute part which was the first part they sent. They gave me a number to call the manufacturer for help in installation but the rep there said they don't provide that service, especially on older items. I'm getting a runaround and don't know where to turn. I even sent an e mail to customer service and that has been a disaster. They finally told me to try here. I'm really frustrated. It was great when Sear's had a service & parts dept at the stores. They are gone and Sear's is really developing a bad reputation because of it. Is it possible this part has been discontinued and there is absolutely no substitute? Will I have to figure out how to reconnect the broken wire myself to get it to work as my only alternative? PLEASE HELP!
I am really sorry for all your frustrations. It sounds like the connector you are looking for is the one that goes right into the sensor itself. Likely there was some confusion since Sears has no separate listing for that particular part. The only way to get that connector will be to order the sensor itself. Replacement sensors come with that connector and about 3 inches of wire.
The good news is that if enough wire is present to reconnect the wires together then there should be no problem in doing so. In fact, when sensors are replaced the idea is to take the short wires that come with the replacement sensor and permanently connect them to the wiring from the opener. I included some links below with more information.
If you cannot get a permanent connection to work because there is not enough wire available, or the connector at the sensor is actually damaged, then you will need to order another sensor. As noted, the wires themselves will still need to be permanently connected after the replacement sensor is installed.
Just be sure you get a good solid connection and test the sensors to be certain everything works properly, in fact, considering the importance of the safety system I would recommend that you have the work done by a professional.
