I have an old garage door opener and I'm trying to program a remote opener to it. I currently have a Craftsman 139.53681B remote control, and want to add a second one. I don't know how the first one was programmed, but I can't program this one. The garage door opener I have now is model # 139.65000. It does not have a "Learn button" like the contemporary units.
If the 139.53681B is operating your opener now you can program a new one by using the following instructions:
On the receiver that is mounted to the wall inside your garage is a plastic panel that pops off the front. This panel is about the same size as the receiver case and just pops off if you pry gently with a very small screwdriver.
Behind the plastic panel is a slide switch labeled program and operate, move the switch to program. With the switch in program, press and release the button you want to use to open the door. Now move the switch back to operate and the remote should work.
If it doesn't program, the remote you are using is the wrong part number. I show the correct remote for your opener is part number 53778.
