How do I program the remote for my garage door opener?

I changed my code at the key pad on my Craftsman model 139.53675SRT2 garage door opener. Now my remote does not work. How do I program my remote?

To program the remote do the following:

  1. Press and hold whichever button you want to program on the remote.
  2. Press and release the SRT (learn) button. On this model it should be on the back of the overhead opener unit, opposite the light.
  3. The indicator light next to the SRT button will begin to blink and the overhead light on the front of the opener will flash once.
  4. Release the button on the remote.
  5. Test the remote by pressing the chosen button as you normally would.

The remote most likely lost its coding because the SRT button was held down too long when resetting the keypad. All codes in the memory are erased if the SRT button is held until the indicator light next to it turns off (about 6 seconds). If that is what happened then you will need to reprogram all your remotes using the procedure above for each one.

The programming instructions are also normally listed on the back of the opener and in your owner's manual. If you want to view the manual online, look for it under "Find product manuals" in the "HOME" section of Manage My Home.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
