Why does the light on the remote control console stay on when the garage door is closed?

I have an automatic garage door opener, model 139.53975 SRT1. The light on the remote control console will not go off when the door is closed. Is something wrong?

I am not certain which component you are referring to as the remote control console.

The wall switch inside the garage should only have one light, a green LED, which normally stays lit all the time.

If you are referring to the light on the overhead unit, this should shut off approximately 4 1/2 minutes after the garage door closes. It could stay on if you have a security plus control with the "Light" feature turned on. If you have this feature there will be a "Light" button on the wall control. Hold down the "Light" button for 10 seconds, until the overhead light goes on and off again, to turn the feature off.

If you are referring to the keyless entry, the one outside your garage with a keypad you enter a code into, the back-lights for the buttons should go off shortly after closing the door. If not, there is a problem with the pad and it should be replaced as it will, at the very least, drain batteries too quickly.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
