How do I fix the counterbalance on my garage door?
In all the garage door articles, the procedure for testing balance is described, but not how to fix it. My sectional garage door closes when pulled half way down. How do I balance the door?

Different manufacturers use a different systems for counterbalancing the weight of the door. Some use counterweights (weights on pulleys), but most use springs. The most common spring sits above the door and is wrapped around an axle. There is considerable energy stored within the springs, and consequently the adjustment is not for the do-it-yourselfer. A professional should be called to rebalance your door.
