I have a "stamped" concrete walkway that has been sealed by the previous owner. Some of the seal, in the heavy traffic areas has worn off and requires resealing. What is the best type of product to use and is it OK to apply the new sealer to the whole walkway, including the areas where the seal is still intact. I'm worried about whether or not the new sealer will adhere to the old sealer and will there be pealing and color differences. Is it necessary to "etch" the old sealer off, before applying the new?
Most people who wish to reseal an existing area, find themselves in the same situation as you. Most sealers have companion products designed to remove all wax, oil, grease, dirt and dust from the surface to be sealed as well as prepare any old sealer for the new sealer.Sealers come in a variety of sheens and looks. Test a small, inconspicuous area before sealing the whole walkway. Apply the sealer following the manufacturer's instructions with a paint roller or a garden sprayer. The concrete will need to be resealed every few years because it is exposed to weather. Different sealers have different precautions and application methods. Be sure to read the instructions carefully.
