My garage (1 1/2 car) does not have any insulation in the attic. During winter months there is excessive condensation on the ceiling. We leave the window open for some ventilation. How do I control/eliminate the condensation?
Your home profile is incomplete, therefore I do not know whether your garage is attached or detached. Most detached garages do not have ceilings. Instead, from inside the garage you can see the underside of the roof. If there is no ceiling per se, but only a roof, adding roof and soffits vents, similar to those found in your attic should help. Alternatively, gable vents could be installed. If there is a ceiling, it could be insulated as long as the attic above is ventilated. Condensation requires a cold surface, but it also requires humidity. During winter months, snow and ice melting off the car leave lots of water on the garage floor. Ideally, the garage floor would be sloped so that water runs out of the garage. During the winter, I regularly shovel the snow and clumps of ice that have fallen off my car, out of the garage. I also use a large industrial squeegee to remove most of the water from the garage floor. This, in conjunction with roof and eave ventilation, should help.
