What product would you use to repair small dents on the exterior of a garage door before it is painted?

Dents in steel doors can be filled with automotive body filler. Follow the same directions as for car body repairs, including stripping down the affected area before filling. The textured surface of some steel garage doors can make it difficult to remove all of the old paint and the difference in texture between the patch and the surrounding area may be noticeable upon close inspection, but it's usually better than the more visible hockey puck-shaped dent. Wood doors can be patched with regular wood filler before re-painting.
