I have a single sectional wood overhead garage door and I want to install my Craftsman garage door opener, however the ceiling in the garage is finished and I have no room above the garage door when it is opened as the first panel just misses the roof when opening. Do you know anything about low clearance brackets that are available as an accessory from my opener and can you give any advice on installing an opener under these conditions?
A chain-driven opener typically needs at least two inches of clearance between the ceiling and the highest point of door travel, while a screw-drive needs at least three inches. If there is not enough clearance, you will need a low headroom kit. This will replace the existing top roller brackets on the top section of your door, lowering the door as it travels in the rails. This should give you the clearance that you need.
