Could you please tell me what exactly is meant by the term "Stone dust"? I'm trying to level a small stone patio section in my yard, and I was advised to use it. Also, I live in Quebec. What would it be called in French?
Patio stones should be installed on a good base to prevent movement. That base often consists of crushed stone, covered by a layer of smaller, finer limestone crushings, and finally covered by a layer of very fine pulverized limestone called stone dust. The object is to have material underneath the patio stones that drains well, but in order to create a smooth surface, the stone must get finer near the top. The finest layer is stone dust. Stone dust is commonly called poussire de pierre in French. It is also known as criblure de pierre or farine de pierre.
