Can you answer another garage wiring question?

I recently asked the question about using PVC Conduit and stranded wire. The answer I received was partially answered . Therefore I would like to ask it again but I will phrase it better. I recently installed a GFCI outlet in my attached unheated garage in a PVC conduit 1 meter from the floor. I wish to continue that conduit to the top of the wall to a tee joint with one side of the 1/2 inch conduit going to a switch and light and the other side going along the top of the wall to feed another receptacle. This is why I want to use stranded wire because to pull through two 14/2 regular wires through a 1/2 inch conduit would be too difficult. My question is it okay to use the stranded wire as long as I follow the proper grounding etc. I want to use PVC conduit because the garage is damp and in the winter it is unheated and using metal conduit would probably rust. Does it look okay to you that what I am doing is okay. Thanks again for your earlier response.

Thank you for asking a clarifying question. We now have a better idea of what you are up to. We have the following observations:

  • In hindsight, it would have been better to feed the GFCI with 14/3 instead of 14/2. This would have allowed for two circuits and only one wire.
  • The tee joint at the top of the wall should be a junction box.
  • Power should go to the switch before it goes to the light.
  • Most metal conduit is galvanized so that it will not rust.
  • For multiple wires, use larger conduit as opposed to stranded wire.
  • Decidewhether you want the other outlet and the light to be protected by the GFCI.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
