In much of the United States and since 1994 in many Canadian jurisdictions, an outdoor electrical disconnecting means is required within sight of and readily accessible to the condenser unit. Check with your local authorities to determine whether this is needed in your area.

Inability to service unit conveniently is the implication.

Look for an accessible disconnecting means (switch) for the air conditioner close to the condenser unit. The switch should not be behind or right above the condenser unit because it may not be readily accessible.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
