SKILL LEVEL 1
The beauty of making your own snow globe (beyond the intrinsic beauty of a snow globe) is that you can feature an object that means something to you, or to the globe's delighted recipient. Choose something suited to the holiday, such as a little plastic Santa or Easter bunny. Or something unexpected — maybe a golf tee or cartoon character. Stuck for an idea? Pink flamingos are always appropriate.

To make sure all the snow globe parts fit together before you start gluing, place the jar's lid on your work surface with the top side (the flat side) down. Place the small plastic lid — the base — inside it, top side up. (A white lid is a good choice. If you use a small baby food jar for the snow globe, use a plastic soda bottle cap.) Set the display object on the base. Turn the jar upside down and place it over everything.
Check that the display object is high enough to show well. If it doesn't, use a base that raises it higher.
Turn the glued-together display upside down and slowly lower it into the filled jar. Some water might slop over the edge, but try to minimize the spillage so you don't create a big air bubble in the jar. Screw the lid on as tightly as you can.
Dry the outside of the lid and the sides of the jar thoroughly, and then run a bead of silicone or aquarium glue around the edge of the lid to seal the jar. Let it dry.
