About me
After starting out at 19 as a Kmart stock boy, Mike Nakamura has risen to the top of the toy game with Senario, a leading creator of hand-held games including robotic pets, card games and more.
In 2000, Nakamura launched the company with the help of two partners and just five employees. Inaugural products included electronic handheld sports games that caught the eye of key retailers like Toys R Us and Hammacher Schlemmer.
Nakamura ultimately bought out his partners, building the company with five main consumer products divisions: Scoozie, soft robotic pet which re-launched with advanced features—after selling over 2.2 million units in 2001; Sweet Thang Plush, a licensed product unit creating popular, giant-sized, branded candy plush products; Senario Entertainment, a gaming division responsible for big sellers like TV Poker, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Cosmo Girl and The Apprentice; Smartbox Products, Senario’s office supply development arm; and a distribution deal with Ugobe—a developer of revolutionary robotic technology that transforms inanimate objects into lifelike creatures.
