Before the project

Backyard Biscuits!!

I was bored during the Christmas holidays and had just received a new dutch oven so I thought I would try something a little differnt and make biscuits outside. They turned out yummy and here are the directions. Before mixing your favorite biscuit recipe burn 1/2 bag of charcoal in a coal chimney outside until they turn red.
During the project

Cut Into Biscuits

Once you have cut your recipe into biscuits place them into a cast iron dutch oven. By this time your coals should be ready.
During the project

Biscuits on the fire

Once the coals are red put 8 of them together on the ground and set your dutch oven full of biscuits on the coals. Then fill the top of the dutch oven with the red coals or as many as you can get on the lid.

Whew! That's HOT!

In 10 minutes open the lid and the biscuits should be done. I suggest welding gloves and a lid lifter.
Before the project

Mmmmm Biscuits!!

Finish off the biscuits by brushing them with your favorite butter or margarine. This is great when its cold and your electricity has gone out!! Hmmm I think I will go cook an outdoor cake....

This is a skill everyone needs to know in case of emergency!
