Your garage door is only as good as the tracks it runs on. Rusty, grimy tracks can be downright dangerous. A simple cleaning every six months helps keep your garage door opening safely and smoothly.

Steps
- Inspect your garage door tracks and hinges. Wipe away grime with a clean rag. Use steel wool or sandpaper to remove rust.
- Lubricate the roller wheel bearings, axles and hinge pins with lubricant made specifically for garage doors such as white lithium grease. Other lubricants, such as WD40, can attract dirt or are too thin to stay put.
- Wipe off any excess lubricant with a cloth, then open and close the garage door to ensure it's clean and running smoothly. Clean up any drops of lubricant that might have fallen on the garage floor.
