Clean Your Engagement Ring

Clean diamond ring

Keep your diamond engagement ring as bright and brilliant as the day it was first slipped on your finger. Give your ring a gentle cleaning when it starts to look a bit dull. Cleaning your ring maintains its enviable sparkle, keeps its value high and also helps you spot loose prongs or other structural problems.

Time — About 30 minutes
Difficulty — Easy
Expertise — None
Frequency — As needed
Where — All US

Steps

  1. Close drains and cover other crevices or holes where your ring could fall if it slips out of your hand.
  2. In a small bowl, make a solution of mild dishwashing soap and warm water, or a mixture of vinegar and warm water, or baking soda and warm water. Don't use chlorine or other harsh chemical cleaners.
  3. Soak your ring in the solution for 10 minutes.
  4. Use a gentle brush to clean debris from the ring.
  5. Swish the ring in the solution.
  6. Rinse your ring with clean water.
  7. Pat the ring dry with a clean, lint-free cloth, or allow it to air dry.
  8. Check the prongs and stone to make sure everything is in good shape and that the stone is secure. If anything is loose, take your ring to a jeweler to have it repaired.
